Fancy, one of our best percentage does. She has been grand many times. We purchased Fancy from Sisters II.
Our brood doe group ranges between 250 and 400 head, depending on the year and sales. Our brood doe group consists of carefully chosen high percentage does (mostly a mix of New Zealand and South African Boer influence), and a smaller number of full blood does. By concentrating on percentage does, we have been able to build a group of does with the kind of bloodlines that produce show animals and high quality seed stock for other breeders. To do this with the same quality full blood does would have taken a large fortune, and we have found it difficult to locate high quality full blood does that do not have conformation problems or are not overweight.
Our does are expected to kid on their own, and we do not raise or put bottle babies into our brood herd. We have never had a case of pregnancy toxemia or ketosis in our does. We cull hard for motherability, body conformation, and health. If a doe lays on her babies, she goes. If she won't raise twins, she goes. Even our show does are expected to be prolific producers. Tessa, our 2002 Grand Champion Doe at the North American (NAILE), has raised triplets the past 3 years. Fancy Trick has raised twins every year. We do not vaccinate, nor do we over- medicate. We do run a cocciciastat in our feed, and all does are fed grain, except when they're dry. The only animals on our farm who get de-horned are meat goat wethers, and we do that with reluctance.
We do not vaccinate for overeating, or tetanus. There have not been horses on our property in the last 40 years, and we handle all health issues by preventative management practices. We deworm by weight at set intervals. We also maintain parasite control by proper pasture rotation, and not allowing over browsing. We do occasionally have to fight lice infestations, and do this with the least toxic materials that will work.

Tessa, our boss doe who has been Grand Champion percentage doe many times, including the 2002 North American International Livestock Expo BoerGoat Show, has raised triplets 5 out of the last 6 years. We have several Tessa daughters in our flock, and her daughters have been some of our top show does. Fancy Trick, who can show herself, has more Grands than Tessa, but not at NAILE. She has raised twins every year, and again she has produced show does for us. We have a whole group of these great precentage does, including S2 R14, S10, and Caroline, as well as SAFD does 84, T134, 96, V162, V160. Our percentage and full blood does have produced several class winners in 2005, 2006, and 2007 and we had Reserve Champion Overall Full Blood Doe at the Indiana Boer Goat Classic in Veedersburg, as well as Grand Champion at the 2007 Illinois State Fair. This group includes SAFD V168, T354, and several Downen fullblood does.
